Barbara Ebel, M.D.  is a clinically retired anesthesiologist and now full time author in Tennessee. She went to medical school and completed her residency at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. “Dr. Barbara” has practiced in various settings and locales. In addition to practicing in Kentucky and Florida, “Doctor Barbara’s” extensive medical experiences have included working as a primary care physician in volunteer clinics, taking part in a medical expedition, and guest speaking on topics ranging from obstructive sleep apnea to physician disability to healthy living (a talk based on an extension of her book Younger Next Decade).

Dr. Ebel maintains all her relevant medical licenses to weave medically credible facts into her story lines as detailed on her website:

She sprinkles credible medicine into the background of her novels, but her characters and plots take center stage.

This has led her to also be known as “The Credible Medical Fiction Writer”. She has certanly earned the title, as she has had and continues to have extraodinary success in the literary space. Her books are in the top 1% ranking of all Amazon ebooks, and her most recent thriller, Deadly Delusions, has been chosen as a 2017 Kindle Book Award Semi-finalist in the category of suspense.

Dr. Barbara’s specialty is medical suspense thrillers, especially adventures that revolve around the operating room. She has two medical fiction series and one stand-alone medical drama. The first series is about a neurosurgeon, Dr. Danny Tilson, and his adventures in and out of the OR. The second series revolves around Dr. Tilson’s daughter, Anabel Tilson, as a medical student and her life’s journey through various rotations.

Dr. Ebel’s literary works are not just limited to medicine. She also has a passion for writing about her therapy dog, Chester, in a series of children’s books. There are now five books in the Chester the Chesapeake series, and Chester even has his own website.

As an author, philanthropist, public health advocate, speaker, and multiskilled creative health professional, Dr. Ebel is cleary having an impact on the medical and general public in her uncoventional health space. It is with great pleasure we recognize Dr. Barbara Ebel and her exemplary work as our Medical Influencer of the Week.
